Trikke Aims to Thrive at TEDx in Long Beach

The three-wheel wonder known as the Trikke will be on display Saturday, July 16, 2011, at TEDx, a daylong event in Long Beach, CA, centered around “ideas worth spreading.”

TEDx is a locally-organized program designed in the spirit of the TED Conference, where some of the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers are challenged give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes or less).

TED, which stands for "technology, entertainment and design," provides general guidelines for TEDx, whose goal is to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences on the local level.

With the theme of “thriving," Saturday’s TEDx attendees will get a chance to “thrive” on the Trikke, thanks to sponsors SBT&T and Trikke Tech (SBT&T is the acronym representing the partnership of TrikkeWorld and SouthBay Trikke, official local dealer of the magazine).

During a 90-minute lunch break, the more than 20 speakers and 600 attendees to the sold-out gathering will have a chance to get acquainted with and ride the Trikke in a specially designated demo area just outside the Center Theatre at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.

“TEDx is a great opportunity for Trikke Tech and SBT&T to share their passion about moving people in different ways,” said Andy Pliska, president of SouthBay Trikke. “I hope everyone has a good experience, unlike any they've ever had.”

He also noted how well the Trikke fits with TED’s concepts of “ideas worth spreading” and thriving mentally, physically, and artistically.

“The Trikke frees up your mind to explore new ideas and new ways to challenge yourself,” said Pliska. “It touches every part of your body and mind. I believe it opens you up to the possibilities of what's next.”

For the Trikke, what’s next seems to be more engagement with the city of Long Beach (headquarters of TrikkeWorld Magazine).

“Long Beach is all about active living, outdoor lifestyles and bikes and bike-like alternatives,” said Randy Boyd, publisher of TrikkeWorld. “Trikkers love coming here to ride their Trikkes. Followers of TED love coming here to be stimulated. It only makes sense for Trikke, TEDx and Long Beach to come together. They’re all ideas worth spreading.”

The sponsorship is the latest in a series of interactions between the city and the Trikke, including a City Hall demo, the Trikke’s introduction to the Mayor and the city’s oldest living cyclist taking a liking to the three-wheel vehicle.
